2023–ongoing. Performance + textile structures
This performance begins with two figures that have been told to us as origin stories: Pocahontas and La Malinche. Both are positioned as mothers of mestizaje. Both belonged to noble lineages. Neither left a voice of their own. What remains are versions constructed through colonial and patriarchal narratives.
The performance moves through that tension. Between what is remembered and what was never allowed to be said. Between history as it was written and the body as a site that still carries it. Here, the body shifts between figures, between temporalities, positions that don’t fully resolve. I bring these histories into relation with my own body, to expose how they continue to structure ideas of race, gender, and power. The textile elements operate in the same way. They are not costumes. They hold layers of reference, displacement, and contradiction.
